Pirates in the Port – City of Newport Shanty & Folk Festival 2026 – builds on the success of the 2025 event and brings the sound of the sea to Newport’s city centre on 30th and 31st May 2026. AND IT’S ALL FREE!
12 venues stretching from the Corn Exchange to The Riverfront Theatre will host 40-50 of the best UK shanty and folk bands, playing sets every hour at every venue over the 2 days.
The event is again being organised by our friends from Bois y Bryn Shanty Group, and will be raising money for SARA (Severn Area Rescue Association), Wales Air Ambulance and RNLI via bucket collections in the venues. Last year over £2,000 was raised for these causes and we all hope to better that next time round.
